Precast Slab System

A modular solution ideal for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.

The panels come in standard size, but perforated panels can be manufactured to accommodate down lighters/speakers.

Polystyrene blocks are used as void forming material in standard width (380mm), varying in length and thickness.

The rib zig-zag are produced with high tensile steel in a continuous bent-length, providing a superior Shear Key between the precast rib and the cast in-situ topping . Precast ribs with stepped top steel are available, as well as edge ribs, depending on individual requirements.

Polystyrene and varying lattice rib height ensure great variation in slab thickness without increasing in concrete consumption. Cobute manufactures slabs in different thicknesses, from 150 mm to 350 mm, in 25 mm increments.

Typical Sections

The links are made with a machine that bends 4mm bars in a zig-zag shape which is then tack welded to the top and bottom bars. The spacing is 225mm as for the beams (this may not be varied)

If ribs are to run perpendicular to beams (upstand, down stand), or butt against perpendicular ribs, additional reinforcement needs to be specified by the engineer to ensure that there is a proper bond link between the elements

Polystyrene can be omitted to cater for situations where it is necessary to have two way action in slabs, but it must be remembered that one cannot rely on transmission of compression perpendicular to the ribs which have a depth of 40 – 45mm. Similarly the reinforcement will need to be placed above the ribs and slab panels with a corresponding reduction in the lever arm.

Perpendicular distribution or stiffening ribs (inter-ties) should be specified at a maximum spacing of 2m (specified by the designer)

Centre-to-centre reinforcement is 530mm.

Practical Benefits

The dead load is roughly 97 kg/m², contributing to a light structure

Easy distribution of services

R Value ranges according to thickness – from 0.45 for H220mm to 0.49 for a H250mm slab

The slab holds a Fire Certificate rating of 150 minutes for a 230 mm thick slab

The system contributes to acoustic insulation

Tension steel is cast into the ribs

Minimal shuttering on site

Integration with the other precast elements by favouring one pour – monolithic structure
